JOURNAL FOR SUNDAY 1ST NOVEMBER, 2026
______________________________________________________________________________

SUBJECT: Experimental WMProto repo available for cloning
   DATE: Sun 1 Nov 18:52:04 GMT 2026

I said I was going to try and make the new WolfMUD experiment available for
Halloween. Well it’s still Halloween weekend so close enough :P

For the impatient:

                  git clone https://code.wolfmud.org/WMProto

Commands that are implemented so far:

    NORTH/N - move player
     EAST/E - move player
    SOUTH/S - move player
     WEST/W - move player
LOOK/L - describe the current location
  EXAMINE/X - describe an item
GET - get an item and put in player’s inventory
DROP - drop an item from player’s inventory
PUT - put an item into a container
TAKE - take an item out of a container
JUNK - destroy an item in the player’s inventory
INV - list items in the player’s inventory
        ACT - perform an action
     SNEEZE - tests broadcast messages
WHOAMI - get the automatically assigned player’s name
       QUIT - exit the world
#DUMP - in-game display of an item’s attributes for debugging

These are the only commands at the moment. I’m working on how they are
implemented rather than implementing as many as possible. The ones chosen
touch a lot of areas and mechanics I absolutely need to get right.

There are action, reset and clean-up events. You’ll find a frog hopping around
and a tester playing with items and doing weird things. Mind the bin, it might
auto junk your items!

There is no player saving yet. You login and a character is created for you.
You quit and the player is gone. It’s a prototype after all. Also the network
code could use a little more TLC…

The world only has three hard-coded locations. Open up core/world.go and
create more or play around with the items and critters.

I’m currently working on a better parser. It’s done and working but I’m having
second thoughts on a few bits of it.

Some of the code is still a little rough, comments are sparse. Things to be
sorted out once I know the direction this experiment is taking.

If you have comments, spot bugs, have better ideas than mine — I’m just a
quick email away: diddymus@wolfmud.org
