SUBJECT: An unexpected email

Last month for the journal was abysmal with only a single entry :| I did try
writing more and had a partial entry written. Unfortunately I went down with
COVID again for the third or fourth time. Even though I have had all of my
shots and boosters, it still hit me quite hard.

Last weekend I wasn't doing much, just noodling around with Mere a bit, when I
noticed an email notification. "More spam…" I thought, but it wasn't. It was a
very nice email that cheered me up and made me smile :)

With permission from the author, here is the email I received:

  Subject: A story on WolfMUD! Long time no see!!

  Hey there "Diddymus"!

  Wow, this is SUCH a flashback for me, and hopefully it'll be one for you as
  well! I dunno what made me think about WolfMUD all of a sudden, but last
  time was like... 20 or so years ago, even more than that.

  I think it's all related to me recently having finished reading the Wheel of
  Time series; thinking back to when I first started reading them and also how
  much I loved spending time in MUDs and MMORPGs, the later of which were
  really starting to see a lot of success thanks to Ultima Online and
  EverQuest.

  Anyways! This is ICQ user 6525326 (remarkable how those numbers still stick,
  huh?), also known as both "ConraDargo", only "Conrad" AND only "Dargo". I'm
  pretty sure that I went by that first one when we were talking, back in
  98-99, but my real name is Tomas Engström and the reason why I know about
  you and WolfMUD is that you helped me create my own MUD back in those days!
  It was based on a fantasy novel "Firax" that I was currently writing at the
  time - inspired by the Wheel of Time series and due to my passion for
  writing (hence why this email will turn out longer than necessary lol).

  Now, I had some rather special needs for this MUD due to how the world
  worked in my fantasy novel, such as the usage of magic and how there would
  be a "chosen one" born to battle the darkness of the lands (quite cliché, I
  know). Having stumbled upon WolfMUD with its many unique and interesting new
  features, I went ahead and contacted you about this and you were kind enough
  to help me getting started, as well as listen to me ramble on about what
  kind of stuff that I would love to see in the future! I can still remember
  how cool it was when you demonstrated being able to shoot an arrow in a
  certain direction, that would then actually travel to another "room"/area
  and could hit something there! I think that you also implemented and
  demonstrated being able to "peer" into an adjacent area and read just a
  short description of what it looked like.

  Welp, I won't take up more of your time than I already have! I really do
  hope that hearing about my memories of WolfMUD and our small "collaboration"
  on the MUD that I was working on, will spark your memory and recall what I
  was up to back then!
