Up to Main Index Up to Journal for October, 2014 JOURNAL FOR MONDAY 13TH OCTOBER, 2014 ______________________________________________________________________________ SUBJECT: Why Mondays? or Tuesdays? DATE: Mon 13 Oct 20:13:23 BST 2014 First off an answer to a question I get asked quite a bit. If I usually code on a Wednesday and/or Thursday why don't I usually post anything until the following Monday or Tuesday? Hrm. I don't write anything on the days I'm coding because... I'm coding :) I tend to get very little time to code and the time I do get I treat that time as precious. Or to look at it another way would you rather I write code or journal entries? This is usually where people say "But why don't you write on a Friday or over the weekend?". Good question. Friday is the end of a usually long week. By then I've had enough and just want to crash and chill watching a good film. Usually a good science fiction or horror film will do me :) So what about Saturday or Sunday? Usually I'm recuperating from the week, catching up on essential housekeeping type stuff - bills, grocery shopping, mow the lawns when weather permits, even some ironing[1] and spending some time with my family. Now for the latest update from last Wednesday and Thursday :) Currently reviewing my changes, cleaning up code and writing or updating comments. Next I need to organise all of my changes in reasonably sized commits - currently have nearly 300 changes over 7 files. This is the typical "I've made a lot of changes hacking around all over the place until things work" scenario I commonly find myself in. It takes time to unravel everything but it acts as its own code review and focuses your concentration on the changes at hand. I've also had a few people asking about the value store I mentioned a week or two ago[2]. I haven't done any more work on it - since it did its job - and there are no current plans to us it for WolfMUD - but you never know it might happen. -- Diddymus [1] Yes, I am fully house trained and can do helpful stuff like cook and do the ironing ;) [2] See journal entry for September 30th: ../9/30.html Up to Main Index Up to Journal for October, 2014
